Nutrition
and supplements
While improvement in dietary habits
can be key to the promotion of health and disease prevention,
scientists increasingly recognize that nutritional supplements
also play an important role.
An optimal intake of vitamins and nutrients varies with one's
genetic constitution. Although most of us have two eyes and
one nose, inside, our metabolic systems are very different.
This variation in our genetic makeup has been termed "biochemical
individuality."
It has been estimated that every year there are 14 million
cases of preventable heart disease, 1.2 million preventable
cases of cancer, more than half a million preventable strokes
and thousands of babies born with neural tube defects that
could have been prevented by a simple vitamin.
Natural vitamins and vitamin supplements are the body's key
to processing and metabolizing nutrients essential for proper
health and vitality.
Proteins are essential in everybody's diet. They are complex
substances found in many foods and are made up of thousands
of small units called amino acids. Proteins contain about
four kcalories per gram, but the body prefers to use carbohydrate
and fat as energy sources.
It is vital that we eat enough protein. Proteins are the
building blocks of the body. If our diet is too low in calories
(from all food sources) the body will begin to use protein
as an energy source. It will take the protein in our muscles
to convert into calories.
New research confirms natural herbs and vitamins may play
a significant role in assisting the body to repair damaged
cells, boost the immune system and protect against common
and not so common health concerns and problems.
